I want to post signs like this EVERYWHERE!! If the whole world stopped smoking, we'd definitely be living in a better place. |
Now, on to the point of this blog entry today, Uncle Darling sent me some disturbing yet funny pictures that I would like to share just for shits and giggles. Grampa Darling has a full basement at his house and it has concrete walls and floors. I have been writing on the walls since I learned how to write pretty much and it's really funny to go down there and read everything that I've written over the years. Since I live in SC and he lives in IL, that's not possible very much. SO, Uncle Darling sent me two random pictures of things he found in the basement. LOL.
Well, this one is just not right! That is not what my handwriting looks like! Considering I was 13 in 1994....LOL!! Crazy! |
Maybe I was going for the Bryan Adams "Summer of 69" thing. LOL
Yep, a picture that I colored for Grampa Darling. |
Grama Darling always said that Grampa Darling was the boss, of the basement. Heehee. So, that is why he hung pictures that I colored for him down there. Because it was his basement and he could do what the fuck he wanted to! I was a little older in 2007. In fact, Dazzle was 7 and Neon was 5 so that would have made me, hmmmmmm......26? Yep, 26. You're never too old to color your Grampa a picture! You liked all those kisses and hugs on the bottom too didn't you?

You can never have too many of these!! |
I have so many wonderful, crazy and sometimes scary memories in that basement. When I was really little Uncle Darling had me so scared of the dark from watching Gremlins too many times that I thought there were Gremlins down there that were going to kill me. Thanks for that Uncle Darling!

Even as an adult, this still kinda scares the shit outta me. |
Another pretty scary memory was when the severe weather sirens went off in the neighborhood and we had to go into the basement because there was a tornado coming. I mean, it was the suburbs of the windy city so we were prepared and perfectly safe but when you're a kid, it's pretty scary. Uncle Darling lived with us then and I remember one time we had to go to the basement for a tornado and he had to get his big jar of Reese's Pieces to take with us. YUM! No tornado was getting his candy damnit!

No tornado will stand between Uncle Darling and his Reese's!! |
Crazy memories....Well, I remember being in the basement trying to skate around in my Mom's old roller skates that were so old you had to have a key for them. That was a joke....I went 3 inches, fell, went 3 inches, fell.....and on and on until I needed bandaids. LOL. Grampa Darling would draw a smiley face on my knee with ointment and kiss me and tell me to keep going! (The same exact approach that taught me how to ride a bike)

Between the roller skates and the bike...we went through quite a few of these :) |
Grampa Darling also had about every single tool known to man in the basement. He also had a whole bunch of power tools and saws...I remember the vice was my favorite "toy" down there. I would put EVERYTHING in his vice and see how long much pressure it would take before it snapped or popped or broke. LOL. I was so rotten! Sometimes I would sweep up his saw dust and pretend it was fairy dust or food or whatever I was playing at the time. I spent every single moment I could in that basement with him.

Do you see it? Fairy dust, soup and salad! I do and I know Grampa Darling would see it! He played with me all the time. |
Also, thank you for reminding me of the wonderful basement memories. Some of the best times of my life were spent in that basement and I will never forget it.
